The 2022 *Pharmaceutical Executive* report names Pfizer as the world's largest pharmaceutical company in 2021.
This achievement is based on Pfizer's prescription drug sales, which reached US$72.04 billion, or approximately Rp1,067.92 trillion (using an exchange rate of Rp14,824/US$), the highest among other global pharmaceutical companies last year.
Pfizer's Covid-19 vaccine, Comirnaty, was also recorded as the world's best-selling drug in 2021. The US-based company earned US$37 billion from the vaccine.
AbbVie, another US-based pharmaceutical company, came in second, with prescription drug sales of US$55.04 billion in 2021.
Next, the Swiss pharmaceutical company Novartis ranked third with US$51.12 billion in prescription drug sales.
The fourth and fifth ranks were occupied by the US pharmaceutical companies Johnson & Johnson, followed by the Swiss pharmaceutical company Roche.
Johnson & Johnson recorded prescription drug sales of US$49.82 billion, and Roche US$49.29 billion.
AstraZeneca also made the list, ranking ninth. The British company had prescription drug sales of US$36.13 billion last year.
