The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the COVID-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 468,850 cases by Monday, May 29, 2023. Australia ranks first, with a weekly increase in Omicron cases of 0.6 percent. GISAID recorded 146,360 Omicron cases in the country, a daily increase of 0.21 percent compared to the previous day.
India follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, the number of Omicron cases in the country increased by 0.45 percent. Daily figures show a 0.16 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day, totaling 136,540 cases.
Next, Spain saw a 0.47 percent increase in Omicron cases, reaching 113,690 compared to the previous week. Indonesia reported a 1.35 percent increase, totaling 37,693 cases compared to the previous week, while Portugal recorded 22,291 cases (a 1.08 percent increase).
In Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 37,693, a 0.51 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since its initial monitoring, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
