The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 6.02 million cases by Tuesday, May 30, 2023. Taiwan recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 6.03 percent. GISAID recorded 2,832 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 2.13 percent compared to the previous day.
Next is Ukraine, which recorded a 3.34 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily Omicron cases in the country increased by 1.2 percent compared to the previous day.
Furthermore, Omicron cases in Sweden increased by 3.03 percent to 108,320 cases compared to the previous week, North Korea with an increase of 114,720 Omicron cases (up 2.68%), and Colombia with an increase of 13,628 Omicron cases (up 2.35%).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 37,759, a 0.18 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges all parties to remain vigilant against the surge in Omicron cases worldwide. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
