The spread of the Covid-19 virus in Indonesia has decreased significantly over the past week. A total of 1,749 weekly Covid-19 cases were recorded between November 29 and December 5, 2021. According to a Worldometers report, this figure represents a 31% decrease compared to the previous week's 2,524 cases, placing Indonesia's Covid-19 cases at the lowest among G20 countries.
South Africa recorded the highest number of weekly Covid-19 cases among G20 countries. Cases increased by 408%, from 13,828 to 70,288 coronavirus infections between November 29 and December 5, 2021.
China ranked second, experiencing a 212% increase in weekly Covid-19 cases over the past week. This was followed by France and Argentina, which saw increases of 45% and 28%, respectively, over the past week.
Meanwhile, Covid-19 cases in Mexico decreased by 15% over the past week. Similarly, Turkey and Russia experienced decreases of 11% and 3%, respectively.
Recently, several countries have detected the Omicron variant of the Covid-19 virus. This variant, first reported in South Africa, is said to be five times more contagious than the original coronavirus.
Therefore, the public is urged to remain disciplined in implementing the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands with soap. In addition, the public is urged to avoid crowds and reduce mobility.
