The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 3.69 million cases by Monday, August 29, 2022. According to GISAID data, the United States recorded the highest number of Omicron cases, at 1.6 million. This represents 43.23 percent of the total global Omicron cases.
The United Kingdom reported a 0.49 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily data shows a 0.02 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day.
France saw a 1.14 percent increase in Omicron cases, reaching 261,380 cases compared to the previous week. Japan reported 186,150 Omicron cases (a 6.47% increase), and India saw a 5.07 percent increase, reaching 96,159 cases compared to the previous week.
In Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 20,200, a 0.35 percent increase compared to the previous day. Omicron cases in Indonesia have been steadily rising since they were first monitored.
