PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), or KAI, is prepared to operate 1,509 trains during the long holiday for the Ascension of Jesus Christ, from Wednesday to Sunday, May 8-12, 2024.
The trains consist of 1,101 long-distance trains and 408 local trains, with a total capacity of 739,782 seats.
During this long holiday period, there will be an additional 6 long-distance train journeys: 4 round trips of the Argo Cheribon train between Gambir and Cirebon, and 2 round trips of the Argo Parahyangan train between Gambir and Bandung.
KAI's VP of Public Relations, Joni Martinus, stated that this addition is to anticipate an increase in passenger volume.
"The increase in the number of train journeys is part of KAI's commitment to improving service to customers, especially during peak seasons like this long weekend," said Joni in a press release on Tuesday (May 7, 2024).
According to KAI data, as of Tuesday (May 7, 2024), a total of 439,433 train tickets have been sold for travel during the long holiday from May 8-12, 2024, averaging 87,887 tickets sold per day.
This figure has reached 56% of the total train tickets sold. Sales are also predicted to continue to increase as the holiday approaches.
Joni stated that so far, the most popular routes during the May 8-12, 2024 long weekend are Jakarta-Surabaya round trip, Jakarta-Solo round trip, Jakarta-Malang round trip, Yogyakarta-Banyuwangi round trip, and Blitar-Bandung round trip.
"In providing train transportation, especially during long weekends, KAI ensures that it will serve the public safely and free from road congestion," he said.
