European Covid-19 statistics this week still depict a concerning situation compared to the previous week, due to the continued increase in the number of deaths. This week, 19 countries recorded an increase in deaths, while 14 other countries recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Finland, Slovenia, Latvia, Austria, and Slovakia. The total number of deaths in these five countries as of Saturday, December 17, 2022, was 97, with a weekly growth exceeding 73.33 percent.
Finland ranks first, with a weekly increase in deaths of 150 percent. Worldometer recorded five deaths in the country, a 28.57 percent increase compared to the previous day.
Slovenia follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in the country grew by 137.5 percent. Daily data shows a 5.56% increase in the death toll compared to the previous day, which recorded 18 deaths.
Furthermore, deaths in Latvia increased by 116.67%, Austria recorded 34 deaths (up 100%), and Slovakia recorded 26 deaths (up 73.33%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Europe occurred in Germany, with 918 deaths. Death reports in this country increased by 19.53% compared to the previous week. Following Germany, France reported 748 deaths (up 44.4%), Italy reported 629 deaths (up 8.45%), Russia reported 385 deaths (down 1.03%), and Spain reported 236 deaths (down 24.84%).
The total number of deaths in Europe over the past seven days was 3,596. This accounts for 34.74 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 10,350 deaths. The number of deaths in Europe increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 3,591 deaths.
