Foreign Tourist Visits to Bali in 2018 Reached 72% of the Previous Year's Level

The island of Bali has become an internationally renowned tourist destination, one example being Kuta Beach. Hosting the 2018 International Monetary Fund (IMF)-World Bank Annual Meeting will have a positive impact on the tourism sector in the "Island of Gods," which is expected to increase the number of foreign tourist visits to this province with Denpasar as its capital.

Statistics Indonesia recorded 4.09 million foreign tourist arrivals to Bali from January to August 2018, a 2.15% increase compared to the same period the previous year. This figure represents 72% of the total foreign tourist arrivals throughout the previous year. Based on country of origin, the most numerous foreign tourists visiting Bali were from China, reaching 962,000, followed by Australia with 763,000 visits. Foreign tourist visits to Bali peaked in 2017, with the highest growth achieved in 2004, as shown in the graph below.

The Hotel Occupancy Rate (HOR) for star-rated hotels in Bali Province in August of this year reached 73.83%. The highest rate was recorded by 4-star hotels, reaching 79.18%, while the lowest was for 1-star hotels, reaching only 55.26%. The average length of stay for hotel guests was 2.83 days, with the longest average stay at 5-star hotels, reaching 3.14 days.
