This week's COVID-19 statistics in the Americas show a decrease in deaths in most countries, a reversal from the previous trend of continuous increases. Eight countries reported an increase in deaths this week, while eight others reported fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage increase, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths were Paraguay, Colombia, Uruguay, Argentina, and Panama. A total of 124 deaths were recorded in these five countries as of Thursday, September 15, 2022, representing a weekly growth of over 33.33 percent.
Paraguay recorded the highest increase in COVID-19 deaths in the Americas, with weekly growth reaching 400 percent. Worldometer recorded 10 deaths in the country, up from two the previous week.
Colombia followed with a weekly increase in deaths of 226.32 percent. Yesterday's daily death toll in the country was 62. Deaths in Uruguay increased by 66.67%, Argentina recorded 43 deaths (up 34.38%), and Panama recorded four deaths (up 33.33%).
Looking at the total number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the Americas over the past seven days was recorded in the United States, with 1,723 deaths. This represents a 0.23% increase compared to the previous week. Brazil followed with 411 deaths (down 37.35%), Peru recorded 213 deaths (up 7.58%), Chile recorded 177 deaths (down 10.15%), and Mexico recorded 137 deaths (down 30.1%).
Total deaths in the Americas over the past seven days were 3,015. This accounts for 28.64 percent of global COVID-19 deaths, totaling 10,529. The number of deaths in the Americas decreased compared to the previous seven-day period, which recorded 3,280 deaths.
