The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded 1.36 million foreign tourist visits to Indonesia in March 2018, a 13.62% increase from the previous month and a 28.76% increase compared to the same month of the previous year. This number of foreign tourist visits was the highest in the last seven months.
Foreign tourist visits to Indonesia from January to March 2018 originating from Southeast Asian (ASEAN) countries reached 518,000 visits. Of this number, 251,000 visits were from Malaysia. Meanwhile, foreign tourists from the Middle East totaled 21,000 visits, and from other Asian countries, 481,000 visits. Those from Europe reached 164,000 visits, Oceania 122,000 visits, and Africa 7,000 visits.
Foreign tourist visits to Indonesia throughout the first quarter of 2018 increased by 14.87% to 3.67 million compared to the same quarter of the previous year. Of this number, the largest number originated from Malaysia, reaching 664,000 visits, followed by China with 496,000 visits in second place and Singapore with 391,000 visits in third place.
