Investment consulting firm Henley & Partners updated its list of Southeast Asian countries with the strongest passports in January 2024.
Singapore currently holds the top position. Passport holders from the Lion City enjoy visa-free access to 194 countries.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian passport ranks 6th in Southeast Asia, with visa-free access to 78 countries.
Here is a complete list of the strength of Southeast Asian passports at the beginning of 2024:
1. Singapore: visa-free access to 194 countries
2. Malaysia: 182 countries
3. Brunei Darussalam: 168 countries
4. Timor-Leste: 96 countries
5. Thailand: 82 countries
6. Indonesia: 78 countries
7. Philippines: 69 countries
8. Cambodia: 56 countries
9. Vietnam: 53 countries
10. Laos: 51 countries
11. Myanmar: 48 countries
With visa-free access, passport holders no longer need to process and pay for visas before departure. Visas can be obtained on arrival or by using an electronic travel authorization (ETA).
The Henley & Partners Passport Index is compiled using exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
This index covers 199 different passports and is updated quarterly whenever new visa policies change.
