Papua has the highest percentage of slum households in Indonesia. Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) shows that the percentage reaches 40 percent, significantly higher than the national average of 5.3 percent in 2018.

Following Papua, East Nusa Tenggara also has a high percentage of slum households, reaching 20.7 percent. Meanwhile, the provinces with the fewest slum households are Yogyakarta Special Region (1.13 percent), Central Java (1.75 percent), and Bali (1.79 percent).

Nationally, the percentage of slum households in Indonesia is 5.3 percent. This figure is unchanged from the previous year's 5.3 percent. The prevalence of slum households is higher in rural areas at 6.7 percent compared to urban areas at 4.1 percent. However, the percentage of slum households in cities increased from 4.05 percent compared to the previous year.

According to the BPS definition, a slum household is one that lacks access to adequate drinking water and sanitation. Furthermore, it has a floor area per capita of less than 7.2 square meters. In addition, the condition of the roof, floor, and walls does not meet minimum standards.
