The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 5.91 million cases by Saturday, November 19, 2022. Réunion Island ranks first, with a weekly increase in Omicron cases of 12.89 percent. GISAID recorded 8,267 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 1.76 percent compared to the previous day.
Russia follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, Omicron cases in the country increased by 6.89 percent. Daily figures show a 1.31 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day, totaling 21,366 cases.
Next is Mozambique with 372 additional Omicron cases (up 5.68%), Iran (Islamic Republic) with 1,639 additional Omicron cases (up 5.06%), and Indonesia with 27,578 additional Omicron cases (up 4.65%).
As for the increase in Omicron cases in Indonesia, up to yesterday's data, there were 27,578 cases, a 0.99 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges all parties to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
