This week's COVID-19 statistics in the Americas show a decline in deaths in most countries, a reversal from the previous trend of continuous increases. Eight countries reported an increase in deaths this week, while eight others reported fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage increase, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths were Uruguay, Paraguay, Panama, Argentina, and Brazil. A total of 634 deaths were recorded in these five countries as of Friday, December 2, 2022, representing a weekly growth of over 18.04 percent.
Uruguay recorded the highest increase in COVID-19 deaths in the Americas, with a weekly growth of 600 percent. Worldometer recorded seven deaths in the country, up from one the previous week.
Next is Paraguay, which recorded a 233.33 percent increase in deaths compared to the previous week. The country reported 10 deaths, up from three the previous week. Panama reported seven deaths (up 75%), Argentina saw a 33.33% increase in deaths, and Brazil reported 602 deaths (up 18.04%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the Americas over the past seven days was in the United States, with 1,380 deaths. This represents a 20.19% decrease compared to the previous week. Following the US, Brazil recorded 602 deaths (up 18.04%), Chile 196 deaths (up 5.38%), Canada 179 deaths (down 10.5%), and Peru 100 deaths (up 17.65%).
A total of 2,553 deaths were recorded in the Americas over the past seven days. This accounts for 35.23 percent of global COVID-19 deaths, totaling 7,247. The number of deaths in the Americas decreased compared to the previous seven-day period, which recorded 2,822 deaths.
