The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 3.83 million cases by Thursday, June 30, 2022. Kuwait ranks first, with a weekly increase in Omicron cases growing by 178.95 percent. GISAID recorded 212 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 1.44 percent compared to the previous day.
Next is Cape Verde, which recorded a 41.18 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily Omicron case numbers in this country also increased by 41.18 percent compared to the previous day.
Following this are Morocco with 336 additional Omicron cases (up 28.24%), Kosovo with 428 additional Omicron cases (up 22.29%), and Mayotte with a 15.79 percent increase in Omicron cases, totaling 154 cases compared to the previous week.
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 12,647, a 0.21 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
