The World Economic Forum (WEF) released its *Travel & Tourism Development Index 2021* report on Tuesday (May 24, 2022). This report shows the state of tourism development in 117 countries worldwide.
The *Travel & Tourism Development Index* (TTDI) is compiled from assessments based on five major indicators.
First, the environmental indicator includes the business ecosystem, security, safety, cleanliness, hygiene, and readiness of communication and information technology at tourist destinations.
Second, the tourism policy indicator includes a country's openness to international visits, price competitiveness, and the level of mainstreaming tourism development in that country.
Third, the infrastructure indicator includes the readiness of transportation facilities and tourist services. Fourth, the tourism attraction indicator includes the quality of natural and cultural tourist destinations.
Finally, the sustainability indicator includes the management of environmental sustainability, to socio-economic resilience in tourist destination countries.
Using these various indicators, the TTDI uses a scoring system on a scale of 1 to 7 points. The higher the score, the better the tourism development index in a country.
