The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 5.97 million cases by Saturday, June 3, 2023. Ukraine recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 4.59 percent. GISAID recorded 2,619 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 3.35 percent compared to the previous day.
Next is New Zealand, which recorded a 4.08 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily Omicron cases in the country also increased by 4.08 percent compared to the previous day.
Then, North Korea reported 117,030 new Omicron cases (a 2.93% increase), Guatemala saw a 2.21 percent increase in Omicron cases to 3,241 compared to the previous week, and Indonesia saw a 1.24 percent increase to 37,967 cases compared to the previous week.
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of new Omicron cases today stands at 37,967, a 0.01 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
