The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 4.28 million cases by Tuesday, August 2, 2022. The United States leads with a weekly Omicron case growth of 2.77 percent, totaling 1.45 million cases according to GISAID, and a daily increase of 0.77 percent.
The United Kingdom reported a 1.37 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week, with a daily increase of 0.32 percent. Germany saw a 0.59 percent increase to 365,910 cases compared to the previous week. Denmark recorded 266,320 cases (a 1.71 percent increase), and France saw a 2.63 percent increase to 187,090 cases compared to the previous week.
In Indonesia, as of the previous day, there were 17,090 Omicron cases, a 0.55 percent increase from the previous day. Omicron cases in Indonesia have been steadily rising since they were first monitored.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
