The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 6.84 million cases by Tuesday, March 14, 2023. According to GISAID data, Cameroon recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with 699 new cases. The total number of Omicron cases in Cameroon currently represents 0.01 percent of the global total.
Next is China (PRC), which recorded a 7.08 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily data shows a 1.65 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day.
Furthermore, the Democratic Republic of Congo saw a 5.58 percent increase in Omicron cases, reaching 511 cases compared to the previous week. North Korea reported 95,159 new Omicron cases (a 2.71% increase), and the United States reported 2.29 million new Omicron cases (a 2.05% increase).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, 34,706 new Omicron cases were recorded today, a 0.24 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since first being monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges all parties to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
