The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 1.99 million cases by Sunday, July 17, 2022. According to GISAID data, North Macedonia recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with 139 new cases. This represents 0.01 percent of the total global Omicron cases.
Mayotte follows with a weekly Omicron case growth of 22.78 percent, reporting 194 new cases. Daily statistics show a 22.78 percent increase compared to the previous day's 158 cases.
Next, Chile saw a 17.88 percent increase in Omicron cases, reaching 11,559 compared to the previous week. Guam reported 340 new Omicron cases (a 16.84% increase), and Colombia saw an 8.73 percent increase, totaling 6,724 cases compared to the previous week.
In Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 15,298, a 0.04 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since its initial detection, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
