The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 5.72 million cases by Saturday, October 29, 2022. Based on GISAID data, North Korea recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with 60,031 new cases. This represents 1.05 percent of the total global Omicron cases.
Russia follows with a weekly Omicron case growth of 5.06 percent. Daily Omicron case numbers in Russia increased by 0.1 percent compared to the previous day, reaching 19,358 cases.
Next, Curaçao reported 1,023 additional Omicron cases (a 4.82% increase), Iceland reported 1,829 additional cases (a 4.63% increase), and Malaysia reported 20,575 additional cases (a 4.13% increase).
In Indonesia, 25,163 new Omicron cases were recorded, representing a 0.18 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since its initial detection, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is advised to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
