This week's Covid-19 statistics in the Americas show a decrease in deaths in most countries, a reversal from the previous trend of continuous increases. Nine countries still recorded an increase in deaths this week, while nine others saw a decrease.
In terms of percentage increase, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths were Ecuador, Uruguay, Argentina, El Salvador, and Colombia. The total deaths in these five countries for the week of July 17, 2022, were 191, representing a weekly growth of over 45.83 percent.
Ecuador ranked first, with a 325 percent weekly increase in deaths. Worldometer recorded 17 deaths in the country, up from four the previous week.
Uruguay followed with a 300 percent weekly increase in deaths. Yesterday's daily death toll in the country was eight. Argentina recorded 10 deaths (a 150% increase), El Salvador saw a 100% increase in deaths, and Colombia recorded 140 deaths (a 45.83% increase).
Looking at the total number of reported deaths, the highest seven-day death toll in the Americas was in the United States, with 2,018 deaths—a 23.8% increase compared to the previous week. Brazil followed with 1,745 deaths (a 7.98% increase), Mexico with 359 deaths (a 30.55% increase), Chile with 233 deaths (a 4.02% increase), and Colombia with 140 deaths (a 45.83% increase).
The total number of deaths in the Americas over the past seven days was 4,919. This accounts for 43.9 percent of global Covid-19 deaths, totaling 11,204. The death toll in the Americas increased compared to the previous seven-day period, which recorded 4,332 deaths.
