The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus has spread to several countries, including those in the ASEAN region. According to newsnodes data on Thursday, December 30, 2021, a total of 1,805 Omicron cases had spread across ASEAN countries, with the highest number of cases in Singapore.
Singapore has recorded 885 cases of the Omicron variant of Covid-19. Thailand is in second place with 739 cases of the Omicron variant of Covid-19.
Meanwhile, Indonesia has recorded 68 cases of the Omicron variant of Covid-19, followed by Malaysia with 62 detected cases.
Furthermore, Cambodia has detected 34 cases of the Omicron variant of Covid-19. This is followed by Brunei Darussalam with 8 cases, Myanmar and the Philippines with 4 cases each, and Vietnam with 1 case.
This data shows that 9 ASEAN countries have detected Omicron cases. Only Myanmar, Laos, and Timor-Leste have yet to report any Omicron cases.
In anticipation of the spread of this new Omicron variant, the government urges the public to remain vigilant to avoid infection with the coronavirus, including this new variant. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing a mask, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
