South Sumatra Air Quality Worst in Indonesia on Tuesday Afternoon (Tuesday, October 10, 2023)

Air quality in South Sumatra this afternoon is the worst in Indonesia. According to the Air Pollutant Standard Index (ISPU) page of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) on Tuesday (10/10/2023) at 4:00 PM WIB, the air quality index in South Sumatra is 202.

According to the Directorate of Air Pollution Control of KLHK, the ISPU is a unitless number used to describe the ambient air quality condition in a specific location, based on its impact on human health, aesthetics, and other living things.

The ISPU calculation is based on measurements of seven air pollutant parameters: PM10, PM2.5, NO2, SO2, CO, O3, and HC. Measurements of air pollutant parameters are spread across 72 stations in various regions.

Based on the Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation No. 14 of 2020 concerning the Air Pollutant Standard Index, an ISPU in the range of 0-50 indicates good air quality, 51-100 indicates moderate air quality, and 101-200 indicates unhealthy air quality that is harmful to humans, animals, and plants.

Next, very unhealthy air quality in the range of 201-300 can increase health risks in sensitive groups. Meanwhile, hazardous air quality in the range of over 300 can seriously harm health and requires immediate action.

Below South Sumatra, DKI Jakarta is ranked second worst in Indonesia with an air quality index of 116. Then, in third place is Riau Islands with an air quality index of 114.

This means that South Sumatra has very unhealthy air quality.
