These are 10 of the World's Cheapest Vacation Cities; Where Does Jakarta Rank?

Traveling the world on a budget is a dream for many. Price of Travel released a list of the cheapest cities for vacations in its 2022 Backpacker Index.

The list calculates the average total daily cost of visiting each city. The cost for each city includes the price of a budget dorm room or hostel, and three meals.

Additionally, the cost includes two uses of public transportation, one tourist attraction fee, and three cheap beers (counted as entertainment).

In the 2022 Backpacker Index ranking, Vientiane, Laos, topped the list as the cheapest destination in the world, with an average daily cost of US$19.27.

Here are the 10 cheapest cities for vacations according to the 2022 Backpacker Index:

2. Luang Prabang, Laos - US$21.19
3. Pokhara, Nepal - US$21.37
4. Chiang Mai, Thailand - US$21.76
5. Kathmandu, Nepal - US$22.22
6. Yangon, Myanmar - US$22.33
7. Hanoi, Vietnam - US$22.40
8. Delhi, India - US$22.79
9. Zanzibar City, Tanzania - US$22.96
10. Colombo, Sri Lanka - US$23.19

Jakarta ranked 14th as the cheapest destination in the world, with an average daily cost of US$25.11, or approximately Rp370,000.

This cost list is intended for budget travelers. However, this cost proportion can also be useful for those with a larger budget.
