This week's Covid-19 statistics in Asia show that most countries have recorded a decrease in the number of deaths, a reversal from the previous period where death tolls continued to rise. This week, two countries recorded an increase in deaths, while nine others recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Afghanistan, Israel, Iran (Islamic Republic), Lebanon, and Japan. The total deaths in these five countries as of Tuesday, January 31, 2023, amounted to 2,282, with a weekly growth rate above -16.4 percent.
Afghanistan ranks first, with a weekly increase in deaths growing by 80 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded nine deaths, a 50 percent increase compared to the previous day.
Israel follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in this country grew by 21.74 percent. The number of deaths reported was 28. Daily statistics show a 7.69% increase in deaths compared to the previous day, which was 26.
Next, deaths in Iran (Islamic Republic) decreased by 0%, Lebanon recorded 12 deaths (down 14.29%), and Japan recorded 2,223 deaths (down 16.4%).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in Japan with 2,223 deaths. Death reports in this country decreased by 16.4% compared to the previous week. Following Japan, the highest numbers were reported in South Korea with 185 deaths (down 26.29%), the Philippines with 59 deaths (down 42.16%), Thailand with 29 deaths (down 34.09%), and Israel with 28 deaths (up 21.74%).
Total deaths in Asia over the past seven days were recorded at 2,601. This accounts for 37.13 percent of global deaths caused by the Covid-19 virus, totaling 7,005. The number of deaths in Asia decreased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation, which was 3,201.
