Data The Numbers reveals that the *Mean Girls* remake topped the list of Biggest Weekends of 2024 at the US box office.
During its first week of release, the musical film grossed US$28.65 million from 3,791 US theaters.
According to *Variety*, the film's production budget was only US$36 million. This is considered a small amount, as *Mean Girls* was initially planned for release on Paramount+ streaming service.
However, those plans changed after test screenings yielded positive results. *Mean Girls* was then released theatrically and achieved high box office revenue.
Like the original version, the *Mean Girls* remake follows the story of Cady Heron, a new student who joins a popular girls' clique, "The Plastics," led by Regina George. Cady falls for Regina's ex-boyfriend, complicating matters, and enlists the help of outcast friends to get revenge against the Plastics.
Second place went to *The Beekeeper*, which grossed US$16.57 million from 3,303 domestic theaters in its opening week.
The Timothee Chalamet-starring *Wonka* prequel came in third, earning US$14.07 million from 3,817 US theaters.
