According to a report from the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu), the government has conducted 3,851 crackdowns on illegal cigarettes in the first quarter of 2026, with evidence seized amounting to 422 million sticks.

The number of crackdowns increased by 26.7% (year-on-year/yoy) compared to 3,040 in 2025.

Meanwhile, the amount of illegal cigarettes seized surged by 66.4% (yoy) compared to 254 million sticks seized last year.

Minister of Finance Purbaya Sadewa stated that the government is committed to continuously improving oversight to curb the circulation of illegal goods.

"So it's quite successful, there's a significant increase in illegal cigarettes, although this is still not perfect and we will continue to improve it in the future," said Purbaya at a working meeting with the Commission XI of the House of Representatives, Monday (6/4/2026).
