There are 10,000 suspected measles cases in early 2026, here's the trend.

The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) reported that, as of the eighth week of this year or the period from January to March 2026, there were 10,453 suspected measles cases in Indonesia.

Of these, 8,372 cases have been confirmed through laboratory tests, and 6 people have been declared dead.

In the first week of this year, there were 686 suspected measles cases in Indonesia. The number increased in the following weeks.

Then the trend began to decline in February 2026, reaching its lowest level in the eighth week with 506 suspected measles cases.

Andi Saguni, the Acting Director General of Disease Control at Kemenkes, explained that the pattern of measles cases often occurs at the beginning of the year.

In the last five years, measles cases usually increase at the beginning of the year and start to decline in the middle of the year.

"Then they will rise again around August, September, October, and November," said Andi at an online press conference on Friday (March 6, 2026).

Nevertheless, he urged the public to remain vigilant ahead of the long Lebaran holiday, as increased mobility and gathering activities could increase the risk of transmission.

"Ahead of the Lebaran homecoming, public mobility will increase and the potential for crowds will be greater. Therefore, the public needs to remain vigilant against measles transmission, especially among children who have not received complete immunization," said Andi.
