10 Countries with the Highest Projected Number of Diabetes Cases by 2050

According to a report by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), the prevalence of diabetes in the global population aged 20-79 years reached 11.1% in 2024, or approximately 588.7 million people.

The IDF predicts this figure will rise to 13% or 852.5 million people by 2050, in line with population aging and increasing urbanization in various countries.

"While the world’s population is estimated to grow 25% over the next 25 years, the number of people with diabetes is estimated to increase by 45%," the IDF wrote in its Diabetes Atlas 2025 report.

By 2050, China is projected to be the country with the highest number of people with diabetes globally, reaching 168.3 million people.

Meanwhile, Indonesia ranks fifth globally, with a projected 28.6 million people with diabetes.
