The Number of High School Teachers in Indonesia Increased in 2024

Based on data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS) compiled by Databoks, there were 360,010 high school teachers in Indonesia in 2024.

This number increased by 4,863 people, or grew by 1.4% compared to the previous year. This achievement also marks the highest record since 2014.

In 2024, 263,498 high school teachers taught in public schools, and another 96,512 taught in private schools.

West Java became the region with the highest number of high school teachers, reaching 44,558 people in 2024. Following that were East Java with 34,987 people and Central Java with 26,094 people.

According to Government Regulation Number 74 of 2008, high school teachers who possess an educator certificate are entitled to professional allowances if they teach in an educational unit with a minimum ratio of 1 teacher to 20 students.

BPS noted that the student-to-teacher ratio at the high school level in 2024 was 14.95. This means one high school teacher is responsible for 15 students.
