Indonesia's August 2025 Consumer Confidence Index Falls to its Lowest Point This Year

Bank Indonesia (BI) survey shows that the Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) reached 117.2 points in August 2025.

This score is down one point from July 2025, which was 118.1. The August 2025 value is the lowest since the beginning of this year.

Nevertheless, the August 2025 CCI score remains in the optimistic range as it is still above 100 points. Conversely, conditions are considered pessimistic if the index score is below 100 points.

BI Executive Director of the Communications Department, Ramdan Denny Prakoso, explained that the August CCI was driven by the Current Economic Conditions Index (CECI) and the Consumer Expectation Index (CEI), which remained at optimistic levels of 105.1 and 129.2 respectively.

"Consumer optimism in August 2025 stems from consumer confidence in current and future economic conditions, which remains at an optimistic level," Denny said in his release, quoted on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.

Citing Katadata, Denny also predicted that retail sales in August 2025 continued to record growth. This is reflected in the Real Retail Sales Index (RRSI), which increased by 2.7% year-on-year (yoy) during that period.

This growth was mainly supported by the Spare Parts and Accessories, Motor Vehicle Fuel, and Cultural and Recreational Goods groups. However, on a month-to-month (mtm) basis, Denny acknowledged that retail sales in August 2025 slightly corrected by 0.3%.

Despite this, the contraction was milder compared to July 2025, which reached 4.1%. "This is supported by sales of food, beverages, and tobacco, as well as the clothing sub-group," he said.
