According to World Health Organization (WHO) data, the number of global Covid-19 cases increased in the last month.
Covid-19 is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. People infected with this virus can experience mild to moderate respiratory illness.
However, the impact can be fatal for vulnerable groups, such as the elderly or those with cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and so on.
On April 20, 2025, the WHO received reports of 30,553 new Covid-19 cases globally.
Then, on May 18, 2025, another report emerged showing 150,503 new cases, a surge of about five times compared to the previous month.
However, during this period, the surge in Covid-19 cases was only recorded in Southeast Asia, while in other regions cases decreased, as shown in the graph.
On May 18, 2025, Southeast Asia accounted for approximately 85% of the total new global Covid-19 cases.
