According to a Populix survey, the majority, or 67%, of Indonesian respondents who want to work abroad are interested in Asian countries.

European jobs were sought after by 52% of respondents, followed by Australia and Oceania (32%) and the Middle East (16%).

Others also expressed interest in working in North America (12%), South America (11%), Africa (3%), and other regions (3%).

The survey also revealed the reasons respondents were interested in choosing these regions to work. Higher salaries were the main reason for 79% of respondents.

Other reasons included career development potential (58%), security and stability of the destination country (55%), and international experience (50%).

Populix conducted this online survey on March 5-6, 2025, with 1,000 Indonesian citizens as respondents. Respondents consisted of 51% men and 49% women.

The majority of respondents were from Java (86%), followed by Sumatra (12%), and other islands (3%). Respondents were dominated by the 25-30 age group (36%) and the 18-24 age group (24%).
