JakPat conducted a survey on the preparations parents make before having children.
The results showed that 81% of respondents prioritized financial preparation, 76% mental preparedness, and 73% prepared childcare and education plans.
Others prioritized emotional readiness (72%), physical health (64%), knowledge (55%), children's facilities such as nurseries (51%), and owning a property or house (49%).
"In all aspects, women tend to consider and prepare more things before having children," JakPat wrote in its report, *Parenting Trends in Indonesia*.
One striking difference relates to physical health preparation. This was a priority for 74% of female respondents, while only 54% of male respondents prioritized it.
This JakPat survey involved a total of 983 respondents, narrowed down to 776 respondents who wanted or already had children.
Respondents were located in non-Jabodetabek Java (41%), Jabodetabek (34%), and outside Java (25%). The majority, or 55%, of respondents were millennials, followed by Gen Z at 33% and Gen X at 12%.
The survey was conducted online via the JakPat application from February 18-20, 2025, with a margin of error below 5%.
