According to a survey by the Ministry of Transportation, an estimated 146.48 million people will travel for the 2025 Eid al-Fitr homecoming (mudik), equivalent to 52% of Indonesia's total population.
The Ministry of Transportation estimates that the most popular destination for this year's Eid homecoming will be Central Java, with 36.6 million people or 25% of the total national homecoming travelers.
The next most popular destinations are East Java with 27.4 million people, West Java with 22.1 million people, and Yogyakarta with 9.4 million people.
"The potential for movement, both interprovincial and intraprovincial travel during the 2025 Eid al-Fitr holiday, based on destination, is dominated by Java Island at 70.8% or approximately 103.7 million people," said Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi in a working meeting with Commission V of the DPR (House of Representatives) on Tuesday (March 11, 2025).
The Ministry of Transportation's survey also shows that the peak of the homecoming flow will occur on D-3 of Eid al-Fitr, or March 28, 2025, with an estimated movement of 12.1 million people (with the implementation of the WFA policy).
Meanwhile, the peak of the return flow is predicted to occur on D+5 or April 6, 2025, with a potential movement of 31.49 million people.
