58% of Indonesia's Star-Rated Hotels Will Be Occupied at the End of 2024

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the hotel occupancy rate (HOR) for star-rated hotels in Indonesia reached 58.06% in December 2024. This is the highest achievement throughout last year.

The figure increased by 3.10 percentage points compared to the previous month (month-to-month/mtm). Annually, however, it decreased by 1.68 points compared to December 2023 (year-on-year/yoy).

Acting Head of BPS, Amalia A. Widyasanti, explained that the highest star-rated hotel occupancy rate in December 2024 was in Yogyakarta Special Region, reaching 70.24%.

"(The increase) was driven, among other things, by the numerous events throughout December and also coincided with the holiday season in Indonesia," said Amalia in an online press conference on Monday (February 3, 2025).

East Kalimantan and South Kalimantan followed, achieving star-rated hotel occupancy rates of 69.41% and 64.72%, respectively.

Meanwhile, the lowest star-rated hotel occupancy rate was in the Papua Mountains region, at only 33.14%. This was followed by Bangka Belitung Islands with 35.93% and Aceh with 37.42%.

BPS also recorded that the average length of stay for guests at star-rated hotels in Indonesia in December 2024 reached 1.57 nights.

Considering citizenship, the average length of stay for foreign guests was 2.57 nights, while for domestic guests it was 1.47 nights.
