Henley & Partners has updated its list of countries with the world's strongest passports based on the Henley Passport Index in January 2025.
At the beginning of this year, Singapore remained at the top. Passport holders from the Lion City have visa-free access to 195 countries.
Malaysia ranked second with access to 183 countries, followed by Brunei Darussalam in third place with access to 166 countries.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian passport ranked sixth in Southeast Asia with visa-free access to 76 countries.
Here is a complete list of the strength of passports in Southeast Asia in January 2024:
1. Singapore: visa-free access to 195 countries
2. Malaysia: 183 countries
3. Brunei Darussalam: 166 countries
4. Timor-Leste: 97 countries
5. Thailand: 82 countries
6. Indonesia: 76 countries
7. Philippines: 67 countries
8. Cambodia: 53 countries
9. Vietnam: 51 countries
10. Laos: 49 countries
11. Myanmar: 46 countries
With visa-free access, passport holders no longer need to process and pay for visas before departure. Visas can be obtained on arrival or by using an electronic travel authorization (ETA).
The Henley & Partners Passport Index is compiled using exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
This index covers 199 different passports and 227 travel destinations, updated quarterly whenever new visa policies change.
