A Jakpat survey found that 81% of respondents reported frequently cooking at home. Of this group, 72% cited lower cost as the primary reason, while 61% stated that home-cooked meals tasted better.
“The main reasons for cooking are cost savings, followed by taste and personal preference,” Jakpat wrote in its report titled *Cooking Habits and Kitchen Tool Preferences*.
Cleanliness and health were cited by 56% of respondents as reasons for cooking at home. Additionally, 39% cooked to improve their skills, 34% for hobby, and 19% to reduce stress.
The survey also investigated respondents' recipe sources. 73% used family recipes, 56% searched online, and 54% used social media.
The Jakpat survey involved 1,223 respondents, narrowed down to 985 who reported cooking frequently. The sample was evenly split between male (50%) and female (50%) respondents.
The majority of respondents were from Java (44%), the Jakarta area (34%), and outside Java (19%). Respondents were predominantly millennials (44%), Gen Z (36%), and Gen X (20%).
The online survey was conducted via the Jakpat app from August 12-14, 2024, with a margin of error below 5%.
