The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 4.1 million cases by Sunday, August 14, 2022. According to GISAID data, Iceland recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with 1,062 new cases. The total number of Omicron cases in Iceland currently represents 0.03 percent of the global total.
France follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, the increase in Omicron cases in the country grew by 19.07 percent, totaling 230,010 new cases. Daily statistics show a 0.22 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day, which recorded 229,500 cases.
Next is Germany with 404,540 additional Omicron cases (a 10.54% increase). Japan saw an 8.9 percent increase in Omicron cases, reaching 168,310 compared to the previous week, and Iran (Islamic Republic) reported 1,281 additional Omicron cases (an 8.19% increase).
Meanwhile, the increase in Omicron cases in Indonesia, up to today's data, stands at 18,205 cases, a decrease of 0.01 percent compared to the previous day. Since its first monitoring, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continuously risen.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant against the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is advised to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
