Jakarta's Star-Rated Hotel Occupancy Rate at Only Half Capacity

International tourist visits (wisman) to DKI Jakarta from all entry points throughout June 2018 decreased by 3.88% to 182,943 visits, down from 190,335 visits. The decrease in international tourist visits to the capital is related to the holy month of Ramadan and the 2018 Eid al-Fitr holiday, impacting the Hotel Occupancy Rate (HOR) of star-rated hotels in Jakarta.

The Jakarta DKI Provincial Statistics Agency recorded that the average HOR of star-rated hotels experienced a 13.13% decrease compared to the previous month and also a 1.97% decrease compared to June 2017. The sharpest decline in the HOR of star-rated hotels in June 2018 was experienced by 2-star hotels, reaching 29.43% to 57.59% compared to the previous month, but up 5.55% from the same month the previous year. This was followed by 3-star hotels, down 16.82% to 56.97% from the previous month and also down 5.38% from the same month the previous year.

The 18th Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang are predicted to boost hotel occupancy rates in the capital in August of this year. Based on data from the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), this largest Asian sporting event will be attended by 11,000 athletes, 5,000 officials, 12,000 volunteers, and 7,000 media crew. The number of spectators is estimated to reach 2 million and will attract 200,000 international tourists.
