Active Covid-19 cases in Indonesia have nearly doubled since mid-last month. According to a report by the Covid-19 Task Force, the number of active Covid-19 cases in Indonesia reached 50,857 as of August 3, 2022.
This figure is up by 1,809 cases from the previous day. Compared to a month ago, active Covid-19 cases have increased by 200.6%.
By province, DKI Jakarta still dominated national active Covid-19 cases on August 3, 2022, reaching 22,584 cases. This figure is equivalent to 44.40% of the total active Covid-19 cases in Indonesia.
West Java is in second place with a total of 14,116 active Covid-19 cases. This amounts to 27.75% of the total national active Covid-19 cases.
Furthermore, Banten and Bali recorded active Covid-19 cases of 4,563 and 1,684 respectively. Meanwhile, active Covid-19 cases in Yogyakarta reached 1,460.
In total, around 6.22 million people in Indonesia have been infected with Covid-19 up to August 3, 2022. 2.52% of them died, and 96.65% have recovered.
The increase in active cases in Indonesia, especially in these five provinces, should be a cause for concern. Adherence to health protocols is crucial to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
This includes wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands. In addition, booster vaccinations should be carried out to reduce the severity of infection and death from Covid-19.
