Many people celebrate Christmas by exchanging gifts. According to an Ipsos survey, the most popular Christmas gift is clothing.
Of approximately 10,000 respondents surveyed, 45% wanted clothing or fashion products as Christmas gifts, either for themselves or to give to others.
Many respondents also desired toys, beauty products, food, gift cards, electronics, books, or furniture, with percentages as shown in the graph.
Ipsos found that 85% of respondents felt enthusiastic about celebrating Christmas 2022. However, many also felt anxious because this year's Christmas is overshadowed by inflationary pressures.
As many as 87% of respondents felt stressed due to rising prices, and 55% felt more stressed than last year. Furthermore, 47% of respondents stated that inflation significantly influenced their shopping decisions, while only 43% were unaffected by inflation.
Despite this, Ipsos observed that overall enthusiasm among respondents for celebrating Christmas remains very high.
"Despite various reasons for anxiety, many respondents are still enthusiastic about celebrating the holidays, visiting friends and family, shopping at malls, and even helping those less fortunate," Ipsos stated in its Holiday Shopping 2022 report released on Friday, December 2, 2022.
"This is an opportunity for retail businesses to boost consumers' holiday spirit by offering the best deals," it continued.
Ipsos conducted this survey among approximately 10,000 people spread across 12 countries: the United States, Brazil, Chile, Australia, the Philippines, Singapore, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Romania.
