Top 10 Regions with the Worst Air Pollution This Morning: West Kalimantan Ranks First

Air quality in West Kalimantan this morning is the worst in Indonesia. According to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK)'s Air Pollutant Standard Index (ISPU) page on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at 7:00 AM WIB, the air quality index in West Kalimantan was 112.

According to the KLHK's Directorate of Air Pollution Control, the ISPU is a unitless number used to describe the ambient air quality at a specific location, based on its impact on human health, aesthetics, and other living things.

The ISPU calculation is based on measurements of seven air pollutant parameters: PM10, PM2.5, NO2, SO2, CO, O3, and HC. Measurements of these air pollutant parameters are taken at 72 stations across various regions.

Based on the Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation No. 14 of 2020 concerning the Air Pollutant Standard Index, an ISPU in the range of 0-50 indicates good air quality, 51-100 indicates moderate air quality, and 101-200 indicates unhealthy air quality that is harmful to humans, animals, and plants.

Next, very unhealthy air quality in the range of 201-300 can increase health risks for sensitive groups. Meanwhile, hazardous air quality in the range of over 300 can seriously harm health and requires immediate action.

Below West Kalimantan, Banten is ranked second worst in Indonesia with an air quality index of 106. Then, in third place is West Java with an air quality index of 92.

This means that West Kalimantan and Banten have unhealthy air quality.
