Jakarta's COVID-19 Cases Dominated by Working-Age Population

The cumulative number of Persons Under Surveillance (PUS) and Patients Under Surveillance (PUS) related to the corona virus (COVID-19) varies across genders and age groups. Data up to March 20, 2020, shows that individuals aged 20-39 years dominated the PUS and PDP categories in Jakarta. Specifically, there were 381 women and 310 men.

The Jakarta Provincial Government decided to close schools and offices, and postpone large-scale gatherings. This is to prevent others from contracting the virus or becoming carriers.

Several health experts have stated that the COVID-19 outbreak is particularly vulnerable to affecting the elderly (aged 65 and above). This is due to the weakening of the immune system with age. The weakened immunity of the elderly makes them susceptible to the disease.
