According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), during January-November 2022, Indonesia exported crackers, chips, peyek (a type of Indonesian savory cracker), and similar products to dozens of countries with a total value of USD 35 million.
During this period, South Korea purchased the most of these commodities, with transactions totaling approximately USD 10.1 million. This purchase value also increased by about 13% compared to January-November 2021.
Indonesian crackers, chips, and peyek were also purchased by the Netherlands, China, the United Kingdom, Malaysia, the United States, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Taiwan, and Germany, with details as shown in the graph.
However, not all purchases increased. The value of cracker exports to Taiwan decreased by 51.45%, the Netherlands by 22.8%, Germany by 21.29%, the United Kingdom by 17.4%, and China and Singapore also decreased by around 8-9%.
Overall, the value of national cracker exports in January-November 2022 decreased by approximately 32% compared to January-November of the previous year.
Based on data from the Ministry of Trade, the centers of the cracker and similar industries are located on the island of Java, namely Tangerang, Indramayu, Semarang, Boyolali, Tulungagung, Gresik, Surabaya, Sidoarjo, Pasuruan, and Jember.
These areas generally produce crackers from basic ingredients such as fish, shrimp, tapioca, and cowhide.
