Java and Kalimantan Report the Most Cases, Indonesia Records 6,124 Covid-19 Delta Variant Cases

The Indonesian Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) released the latest data on Delta variant (B.1.617.2) cases spread across Indonesia's 34 provinces as of Monday, December 13, 2021. A total of 6,124 Delta variant Covid-19 cases were recorded nationwide, with the highest concentration in Java and Kalimantan.

3,312 Delta variant Covid-19 cases, or 54.08% of the national total, were found in Java. Kalimantan reported 1,084 Delta variant coronavirus cases.

Sumatra ranked third with 804 sequenced Delta variant cases. This was followed by Sulawesi with 429 Delta variant Covid-19 cases.

Furthermore, 327 sequenced Delta variant cases were detected in Bali and Nusa Tenggara. Cases of this variant were also found in Papua and Maluku, totaling 168.

Besides Delta, Kemenkes also detected 81 Alpha variant (B.1.1.7) sequences and 22 Beta variant (B.1.351) cases in Indonesia.

The Delta variant of the Covid-19 virus is 90% more transmissible than the original coronavirus. Therefore, the government continues to urge the public to diligently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands with soap. In addition, the public is advised to avoid crowds and reduce mobility.
