A GISAID report shows that there were 488 cases of the Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus in 23 Asian countries/regions as of Thursday, December 23, 2021. Israel had the highest number of Omicron variant Covid-19 cases in Asia, with 179 cases.
Singapore ranked second in Asia with 93 Omicron variant Covid-19 cases. India and Japan recorded 53 and 37 cases of the Omicron variant, respectively.
Russia and Hong Kong detected 27 and 18 cases of the Omicron variant, respectively. Thailand, Malaysia, and South Korea found 14, 11, and 9 cases of the Omicron variant, respectively.
Indonesia recorded 8 cases of the Omicron variant of Covid-19. This places Indonesia tenth in Asia in terms of the highest number of Omicron variant Covid-19 cases.
The GISAID report also states that 81 countries worldwide have detected Omicron variant Covid-19 cases. A total of 26,845 Omicron variant Covid-19 cases have been detected globally.
Therefore, the government continues to urge the public to remain vigilant and prevent the spread of Covid-19, including this new variant. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
