A global survey on countries with the best mental health conditions, launched by Sapien Labs in their 2021 Mental State of the World report, reveals that Venezuela ranks highest, achieving the highest Mental Health Quotient (MHQ) score of 91.
Spain follows in second place with an MHQ score of 85, followed by Puerto Rico and the Democratic Republic of Congo with scores of 84 and 82 respectively.
The survey involved 223,087 online respondents from 34 countries across six continents, using English, Spanish, French, and Arabic.
The survey's assessment of mental health considered five aspects: mood and outlook, social self, drive and motivation, mind-body connection, and cognition, resulting in a final Mental Health Quotient (MHQ) score.
MHQ scores range from -100 to 200, with positive scores indicating "normal" mental health and negative scores suggesting potential clinical mental disorders.
The report also explains that mental health can be influenced by several factors, including demographic factors, pandemic impact, economic factors, and cultural factors.
