According to the Directorate General of Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health, there were 743,198 confirmed cases of COVID-19 throughout 2020. Of that number, 22,138 people died.
East Java recorded the highest number of deaths due to the coronavirus in Indonesia. The number of COVID-19 deaths in the province led by Khofifah Indar Parawansa was 5,827 in the past year, equivalent to 26.32% of the national total deaths.
Central Java is in second place with 3,562 COVID-19 deaths (16.09%). Next is DKI Jakarta with 3,270 deaths due to the coronavirus.
Meanwhile, West Kalimantan recorded the lowest number of COVID-19 deaths, only 27 people last year. Preceding it were West Sulawesi with 34 deaths and Bangka Belitung Islands with 35 deaths.
Meanwhile, the number of recoveries last year reached 611,097 people. The province with the highest number of recoveries was DKI Jakarta with 164,787 people, followed by East Java with 72,135 people, and West Java with 70,788 people.
